Town Meetings and Voting Still On Despite Nor’Easter
CONWAY, NH – Despite today’s big snowstorm the polls are open across the Mount Washington Valley.
The only towns not holding voting today are Conway, Hale’s location, and Chatham. Chatham is the only town to postpone its town meeting due to the storm. Their town meeting will take place this coming Saturday, March 17, at 2 p.m. at the Chatham Town Hall.
Conway will be voting on April 10th.
Although state law requires towns to elect their local officials on the second Tuesday in March, nearly 80 communities postponed voting last year when a powerful storm dumped more than a foot of snow on much of the state.
The Senate on Thursday passed a bill that would give the secretary of state the authority to postpone future town elections, while local officials would only make the call if the secretary of state fails to respond to a request within four hours.
