CONWAY,NH – Work on a Conway bridge is set to continue next week. Starting Monday the New Hampshire Department of Transportation will be continue work on the NH Route 16 Bridge over the Saco River in Conway.

The work is being done as a part of a rehabilitation project.

The bridge will be closed to northbound traffic for six weeks until April 27. Northbound traffic on NH Route 16 will be detoured via NH Route 113 East (East Maine Street) toward Center Conway then down US Route 302 west Eastman Road, and then back to Route 16.

CPM Constructors of Freeport, Maine is the general contractor for the $2.8 million project, which has a final completion date of May 17, 2019.

Pinkham Notch, NH—Held on Saturday, March 10th, the second-annual Great Glen Trails Winter Charity Day was an event which celebrated active lives, and promoted the spirit of giving. Participants made a donation to the charity of their choice, and then enjoyed a day of Nordic skiing and snowshoeing on our scenic trail system. Our old-fashioned tubing hill was a big hit for all ages, and a catered lunch was served in our cozy base lodge. For those participants who donated $50 or more, we thanked them with an exciting ride on the Mt. Washington SnowCoach.

The inaugural Great Glen Trails Winter Charity Day, held in March 2017, raised over $2,500 for 17 local and national charities. This year’s event built on that success, raising $4,285 for 34 great causes, including:
Jen’s Friends Cancer Foundation
ALS Association of Northern NE
Family Resource Center at Gorham
Starting Point NH
PugHearts of Houston
The Angels Community Outreach
Manchester NH VA Hospital
March of Dimes
Angels and Elves
Gibson Center
VNA Home Care and Hospice of Carroll County
Leo’s Recovery Fund
Bartlett Historical Society
Coos Cycling Club
Tin Mountain Conservation Center
St. Judes Children’s Hospital
North Conway Public Library
Arts Council of Tamworth
Community Legal Aid
Aurora
American Cancer Society
Mt. Washington Valley Trails Association
Society for Protection of NH Forests
Mt. Washington Valley Bicycling Club
Feeding America
Tewksbury Historical Society
NH Civil Liberties Union
Green Mountain Club
White Mountain Waldorf School
North Conway Humane Society
Jackson Biathlon
Cocheco Humane Society
Cultural Survival
Mt. Washington Valley Habitat for Humanity

A special “thank you” goes out to several organizations that attended the event and set up displays to educate participants on their involvement with local communities. Those included the Bartlett Historical Society, Mt. Washington Valley Trails Association, Arts Council of Tamworth, Mt. Washington Valley Bicycling Club, and the North Conway Public Library.

The whole staff at Great Glen Trails is also proud to have raised $625 for local Olympic athlete Sean Doherty. Sean is a member of the U.S. Olympic Biathlon Team, and recently competed in his second winter Olympic games in PyeongChang, South Korea. When he’s not traveling the globe on the World Cup tour, Sean makes his home in Center Conway, New Hampshire. He grew up skiing and competing at Great Glen Trails, and it’s our honor to support him on many levels. The $625 that was raised during Winter Charity Day came from the sale of raffle tickets for a quilt that was made by his grandmother, Winnie O’Shaughnessy and family friend Laura Brockett. The lucky winner was Donna Jenkins.

The Great Glen Trails Winter Charity Day will continue to be an ongoing part of the philanthropic activities hosted by the Mt. Washington Auto Road and Great Glen Trails Outdoor Center. The companies’ events have a long history of raising funds for local charities and non-profit organizations, foremost among them being the Mt. Washington Auto Road Bicycle Hillclimb which has raised over $1,100,000 for the Tin Mountain Conservation Center, and the Northeast Delta Dental Mt. Washington Road Race which has raised over $100,000 for Coos County Family Health Services.

CONWAY, NH – Despite today’s big snowstorm the polls are open across the Mount Washington Valley.

The only towns not holding voting today are Conway, Hale’s location, and Chatham. Chatham is the only town to postpone its town meeting due to the storm. Their town meeting will take place this coming Saturday, March 17, at 2 p.m. at the Chatham Town Hall.

Conway will be voting on April 10th.

Although state law requires towns to elect their local officials on the second Tuesday in March, nearly 80 communities postponed voting last year when a powerful storm dumped more than a foot of snow on much of the state.

The Senate on Thursday passed a bill that would give the secretary of state the authority to postpone future town elections, while local officials would only make the call if the secretary of state fails to respond to a request within four hours.
