CONWAY, NH – A Conway man died after being struck by a truck Monday night. According to Conway Police Lt. Christopher Mattie at around 9:43 pm Monday authorities responded to a report of a pedestrian who had been struck by a motor vehicle on Eastman Road near the intersection of East Conway Road.

When officers arrived, two motorist who witnessed the incident had already started CPR on the man, later identified as 37-year-old Jeffery Varney, who was still in the roadway. Varney was transported from the scene by North Conway Ambulance to Memorial Hospital where he later died.

According to witnesses Varney was walking east in the eastbound travel lane when he was struck by a Toyota pickup truck driven by 28-year-old Brett Guerringue of Eaton. Guerringue did not suffer any injuries in the collision.

Authorities closed down that part of Eastman Road for approximately 2 hours to allow the Conway Police Department Accident Reconstruction Team to document the scene.

The accident remains under investigation, however Police said that speed and driver impairment do not appear to be factors in the crash.

GORHAM, N.H. (AP) — New Hampshire Fish and Game officers say two snowmobile riders failed to navigate a turn and crashed, suffering serious injuries.

Officers say 36-year-old William Jones, of Levittown, New York, lost control of his snowmobile and crashed on a Gorham trail on Thursday. Nineteen-year-old Casey Taylor, of Lindenhurst, New York, who was in the same group of snowmobilers, collided with Jones’ snowmobile.

Both were wearing helmets. Rescuers took both to a hospital for further evaluation and treatment.
