Man Trying To Evade Police Killed In Car Accident On Route 16 In Milton


Milton, NH – A Rochester man was killed in a car crash on Route 16 after trying to evade authorities. According to New Hampshire State Police the Milton Police Department was attempting to arrest 28-year-old Sean York on several outstanding felony warrants Sunday night at 8. York learned that the authorities were were going to arrest him and he fled the area in a stolen 2016 Chrysler 200.

Milton Police attempted to stop York in the town however he failed to stop and continued onto Route 16 South at a high rate of speed. In the area between Exit 17 and 18 York lost control of the vehicle, slid across Route 16, left the roadway, rolled over and caught on fire.

He suffered life threatening injuries and succumbed to his injuries at the scene. He was pronounced deceased by Assistant Deputy Medical Examiner Will Bartels. There were no other occupants in the vehicle and no other vehicles involved in the accident.

The crash investigation is being handled by the State Police Collision Analysis & Reconstruction Unit (C.A.R. Unit) with assistance NH State Police Troop A. Route 16 north and southbound was closed for several hours while the crash was investigated. State Police said that the accident is under investigation but at this time it appears that speed was a major factor.

Assisting on scene were members of the Milton Police Department, NH State Police Troop A Barracks, NH Fire Marshal’s Office, Milton Fire & Rescue & EMS, and New Hampshire Department of Transportation.

NY Woman Seriously Injured In ATV Accident In Dixville

Dixville, NH – A New York Woman was seriously injured in an ATV accident in Dixville Notch yesterday. Fish and Game Officials said that 26-year-old Ashalee James of Central Islip New York was driving a rented ATV on Flume Brook Trail at the rear of a group when her riding party noticed her missing at around 1:04pm. They attempted to find her for about 30 minutes.

Another group or riders on the trail discovered the crash scene and an injured James at the bottom of a 60 foot embankment. The good Samaritans called 9-1-1 and rendered aid to James then transported her out to Route 26 to an awaiting ambulance.

James was transported to a helicopter landing zone at Upper Connecticut Valley Hospital in Colebrook, where she was immediately transferred into a DHART helicopter and airlifted to Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon with serious but non-life threatening injuries.

Authorities said that due to sustaining a loss of consciousness, James could not remember any details about the crash, and the incident was not directly witnessed by any other riders.

James was wearing a full-faced helmet and eye protection at the time of the crash. Authorities believe that alcohol was not a factor in the crash and that operator inexperience was a likely contributor to the incident.

Good Samaritans, New Hampshire State Police, 45th Parallel EMS, Colebrook Fire/Rescue and DHART personnel assisted Conservation Officers with the incident.

2017 Memorial Hospital Open Golf Tournament Grosses Over $50,000 to Support Let’s Go Childhood Wellness Program

NORTH CONWAY, NH – Golfers took to the greens at the Wentworth Golf Course in Jackson, NH last week as part of the 37th Annual Memorial Hospital Open Golf Tournament. The event grossed over $50,000 to support “Let’s Go,” the hospital’s initiative to bring health and wellness education and activities to school-aged children throughout Mt. Washington Valley.

The tournament was founded in 1980 by former NH congressman, the honorable Bill Zeliff. In its early years, the event often saw the likes of Governor John H. Sununu, White House Chief of Staff under President George H.W. Bush, and father of now-Governor Chris Sununu.

Now in 2017, the Sununu family turned out once again for the North Conway hospital’s cause, with John Sununu and wife Nancy playing in the tournament with Memorial’s president and CEO Scott McKinnon, and Governor Chris Sununu making an appearance at the awards dinner.

The event benefits Memorial’s Let’s Go program. The program serves 12 sites around the Mt. Washington Valley such as schools, pre-schools and daycare centers, to help them work towards receiving official “Let’s Go” program certification. Let’s Go is an evidence based program that works to reduce childhood obesity through better nutrition, more exercise and less screen time. The results are impressive. At “Let’s Go” sites’ school, child care and after school programs, almost 2,000 students were impacted by “Let’s Go”. Schools and sites are limiting unhealthy choices for snacks and celebrations, eliminating sugary beverages and limiting recreational screen time.

Last year, the event raised over $52,000 which supported the program. The event has raised over $850,000 over its long history, purchasing many pieces of life saving equipment and supporting community health programs.

Portsmouth Man Charged With Vicious Attack Outside A Rochester Planet Fitness

Rochester, NH (AP) – Police have arrested a man in connection with an attack on a woman outside a Planet Fitness gym in New Hampshire last month that was captured on surveillance video.

Police arrested 22-year-old Jordan C. Lamonde, of Portsmouth, on Monday, in connection with the June 12 attack. He’s been charged with second-degree assault and was held on $150,000 bail. He’s scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday. A man who answered the phone at Lamonde’s home said he had an attorney, but was told not to give out the name.

Surveillance video from the gym in Rochester showed a man getting out of his car and walking toward the gym. Unprovoked, the man comes up from behind the woman and starts hitting her as she is about to get into her car. Police said she punched 39 times, but didn’t suffer life-threatening injuries.

3 Injured 1 Hospitalized After Busy Weekend For Fish And Game In Pittsburg

Pittsburg, NH – Three people were injured and 1 hospitalized after multiple calls in Pittsburg yesterday. According to New Hampshire Fish and Game at 1:15 Sunday Afternoon 29-year-old Maclynn Trojan of Worcester Massachusetts was riding an ATV while following 72-year-old John Saffron on another ATV and failed to slow down in time to avoid his vehicle as it slowed.

Authorities said Maclynn appeared to strike the left rear tire of Saffron’s ATV with her front right tire, which caused both vehicles to crash and rollover. Neither Maclynn nor Saffron were wearing helmets at the time of the crash.

Emergency Services were called and Maclynn was transported to Upper Connecticut Valley Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Saffron refused medical treatment for his minor scrapes and bruises sustained in the crash.

A few hours later Fish and Game Officials received another call because 71-year-old Carolyn Vecchry of Middleton Massachusetts injured her ankle while walking along the rocks below Garfield Falls on the East Branch of the Dead Diamond River.

A Conservation Officer was still in Pittsburg due to the high call volume in the area and was able to respond to the scene along with other rescuers. Carolyn was secured in a litter and carried up the steep trail away from the falls and back to the awaiting ambulance. Carolyn was then transported to Upper Connecticut Valley Hospital for treatment.

In a written statement Conservation Officer Glen Lucas said “This busy day in Pittsburg called on many volunteers and first responders to come out on a Sunday to provide a much needed and appreciated service to the constituents of the Pittsburg tourist community. Without the unwavering dedication of the local responding personnel neither call would have been handled so professionally and so promptly.

Body Of Missing New Jersey Man Found In White Mountain National Forest

CUTTS GRANT, NH – The search For a Missing New Jersey man came to tragic conclusion yesterday. The New Jersey Sierra Club confirmed that the body of 63-year-old Gregory Auriemma, of Brick, New Jersey, was found. According to reports Auriemma’s body was located by the appalacian mountain club in the Dry River Wilderness in Cutts Grant.

The New Hampshire Fish and Game Department initially worked off his last known location (North Conway), and later in the week developed information that he had stayed in the area of the Mizpah Spring Hut in Bean’s Grant on or about June 28.

Further information was then obtained linking Auriemma to an abandoned campsite near the Dry River Trail in Cutts Grant. A Fish and Game search and rescue team confirmed on Saturday (July 15) that the abandoned campsite was Auriemma’s.

A ground search of the Dry River drainage was conducted by that search team and the area was also searched by air with a New Hampshire National Guard Blackhawk helicopter. Hikers in that area were interviewed by Fish and Game Conservation Officers to try to obtain additional information.

Authorities are asking the public for any information available from hikers who have been in this area and may have met up with Auriemma; if you have any information, please call (603) 271-3361.

Fish and Game Conservation Officers were assisted in the search by the Upper Valley Wilderness Search and Rescue, New England K-9 Search and Rescue, Pemigewassett Valley Search and Rescue, the Appalachian Mountain Club, US Forest Service, a NH State Police search team, Androscoggin Valley Search and Rescue, and NH State Forest Rangers.
